A teenage youth was found dead only a few days after being wrongly blamed of stealing the ashes of a deceased baby during a burglary, an inquest has heard.

Heartbreaking Discovery

The young boy's mother and father discovered his remains in his room at his Flintshire home on 19 November 2021.

False Accusations Begin

The investigation heard how his parent received a communication on 8 November 2021 via online platforms, from a individual asking if her son was her child. The communication stated: "Tell him appreciation for burgling my flat."

In a statement presented to the court, the mother said the individual had been in the news, claiming her baby's ashes had been stolen in a break-in - a claim which was untrue.

Police Investigation

An official inquiry from police later determined the alleged break-in victim had "provided false information" and "it now appears that said property was not taken in the first place".

News coverage about the supposed taken remains generated social media comments, and although Kai was not identified in the posts, his mother said individuals "knew it was him".

The "online posts were extremely distressing", she stated.

Emotional Health Impact

She explained that Kai had been diagnosed with mild ADHD, and as part of that disorder, other peoples' views really mattered to him.

"This must have hurt him deeply," she commented, "especially when this was untrue".

The teenager was arrested at his residence, but nothing was discovered. He was taken to a police station and later released pending further inquiry.

Police said they would be in touch, the hearing learned, but had not contacted the family by the time of his passing.

Withdrawal and Anxiety

His mother said her son "became isolated" after the arrest and "repeatedly inquired me whether I had heard anything from the police", because his ADHD meant sometimes "a minute could feel like days".

When she talked to him about the alleged incident, she said her child informed her he had gone into the residence because the woman who lived there had said he could utilize the bathroom whenever he needed, but refuted removing anything.

Digital Harassment

In a joint statement between her and her spouse, Mrs Lloyd said her son was being bullied online after the accusations.

The inquest learned that a 19-year-old urged the teenager to kill himself.

She had no worries on the night before he died, describing how she had heard him "laughing and teasing".

She portrayed him as a "caring, affectionate" boy, and said her "family is completely devastated".

He had been "clearly concealing his concerns", she said, noting that he could not stand to have anyone "think bad of him".

Educational Reaction

The hearing received testimony from school staff at the local High School.

On 8 November, she "overheard some students discussing that Kai had been detained and that was the initial I heard".

"He informed me... he'd was innocent," she continued.

After the discussion, the educator said she rang Kai's parents' landline and left a message saying she had communicated to Kai about the accusations.

The court learned his family said they did not receive that message.

Official Conclusion

Lead investigator told the inquest he would wait for reports regarding what enhancements had been made to dealing with individuals with ADHD, before deciding whether he should make a avoidance of subsequent deaths report.

Delivering a descriptive finding, he said: "Approximately November 8th, 2021, unsubstantiated accusations were made against Kai Benjamin Lloyd, a young individual.

"Likely falsehoods were subsequently exaggerated and exaggerated through the platform of online networks.

"On November 11th, he was questioned by the police and after his questioning he was released whilst investigations continued."

The coroner determined: "Exists no evidence that the actions or omissions of any agency led to or added to his passing and although it was the result of a personal action it is impossible to determine his purpose."
