A police sergeant that leaped to the assistance of a fellow officer that was assaulted by a knife attacker was granted the Monarch's Honor for Courage.

Sgt Tim Ansell grappled with twenty-seven-year-old Jacob Brown subsequent to he placed a weapon to the neck of his colleague Sergeant Marc Foster.

Brown launched his attack as the officers and their colleague, PC Marcus Wolstencroft, were conversing to a driver following a road collision in that location in July 2023.

Brown knifed and cut the two Sgt Ansell and Sergeant Foster before PC Wolstencroft stopped him with a Taser.

"Policeman attacked," the officer stated over his radio.

Bodyworn and vehicle camera recording made public by the agency showed Brown, that was clothed in black with a hood covering head, run up to Sgt Foster from behind with a blade extended.

He ran into the officer who stumbled and dropped to the ground, before Sgt Ansell stepped in and struggled to restrain him to the ground despite being continually attacked with the knife.

Sgt Ansell stated audibly: "I need something on my throat now, I got knifed in the throat."

Sgt Ansell suffered two deep cuts to his throat and more injuries to his arms and body, while Sergeant Foster received cut injuries.

The department reported Sergeant Foster utilized his palms to control his fellow officer's bleeding prior to paramedics came.

The latest recognition follows after the trio of policemen won organizational Valor Recognitions in late 2023 and the prestigious bravery honor from the regional union branch in spring 2024.

They additionally received a Regional Valor Recognition in mid-2024.
